Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 17:45-2

  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. No mutual benefit association shall hereafter undertake to provide any specified benefit in the event of disablement by accident or sickness to any member, or to any other person, or contract with any of its members to pay death benefits until such association shall have complied with the requirements of this chapter and shall have received a certificate of authority setting forth that such association has complied with the provisions of this chapter and that it is authorized to provide benefits in the event of disablement by sickness or accident or to contract with members to pay death benefits, or both of them, within the limitations established by the act under which it is organized and by this chapter.
