  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. At any time prior to the sale, destruction or other disposition of the contents of a package pursuant to sections 293, 294 and 295, the person in whose name such package stands may require its delivery upon payment of all charges or rent accrued, and all other charges or expenses paid or incurred to the date of the delivery, including the cost of inventorying or of opening and inventorying, the fees of the notary public, the cost of preparing and mailing the notice, and publication, if any. If the commissioner is in doubt concerning the person entitled to such package, or if there are conflicting claims thereto, he may require an order of the Superior Court authorizing and directing the delivery of the package.
