Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 18A:12-17

  • Board: means the board of education. See New Jersey Statutes 18A:1-1
  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. The mayor or other chief executive officer of the municipality shall, between April 1 and April 15 in each year, appoint one member of the board to serve for a term of 5 years beginning on May 15 next succeeding his appointment, to take the place of the member whose term shall expire in that year, and any vacancy occurring in the membership of the board shall be reported forthwith by the secretary of the board to the mayor or other chief executive officer of the municipality, who shall within 30 days thereafter appoint a qualified person to fill the vacancy for the unexpired term.
