Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 18A:6-7

  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • oath: includes "affirmation. See New Jersey Statutes 1:1-2
  • Oath: A promise to tell the truth.
  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State.   • State: extends to and includes any State, territory or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia and the Canal Zone. See New Jersey Statutes 1:1-2
Every person who is a citizen of the United States, and who is employed as a professor, instructor, teacher or in any teaching capacity by or in any school, college, state college, university or other educational institution in this state which is supported in whole or in part by public funds, directly or through contract or otherwise with or on behalf of the state shall, before entering into the discharge of his duties, take and subscribe to the oath of allegiance and office prescribed in section 41:1-3 of the Revised Statutes, and any person who is a citizen or subject of any other country and who is so employed, shall, likewise, take and subscribe to an oath to support the constitution of the United States while so employed, a copy of which oath shall be filed with his said employer.
