Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 18A:71-30

  • Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
  • Board: means the board of education. See New Jersey Statutes 18A:1-1
  • Department: means the State Department of Education. See New Jersey Statutes 18A:1-1
  • Higher education: means that education which is provided by any or all of the public institutions of higher education as herein defined and any or all equivalent private institutions. See New Jersey Statutes 18A:1-1
  • State: extends to and includes any State, territory or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia and the Canal Zone. See New Jersey Statutes 1:1-2
3. As used in this act, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise, the following terms shall have the following meanings:

(a) The term “board” shall mean the Board of Directors of the New Jersey Educational Opportunity Fund created by section 4 of P.L.1968, c.142 (C. 18A:71-31).

(b) (Deleted by amendment, P.L.1994, c.48).

(c) The term “department” shall mean the Department of State.

(d) The term “fund” shall mean the New Jersey Educational Opportunity Fund created by section 4 of P.L.1968, c.142 (C. 18A:71-31).

(e) The term “higher education” shall mean that education which is provided by any or all of the public institutions of higher education as herein defined or any or all equivalent private institutions.

(f) The term “public institutions of higher education” shall mean and include Rutgers, The State University, the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Rowan University, Montclair State University, Kean University, the six State colleges, the county colleges, and any other public universities, colleges or county colleges now or hereafter established or authorized by law.
