Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 45:22-2

  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. No person shall engage or continue in business as a pawnbroker except as authorized by this article, and without first obtaining a license from the commissioner of banking and insurance. No person other than a licensee under this article shall display any sign or other device in or about the premises of business, or in any advertising matter or other printed matter which in anywise resembles the emblem or sign commonly used by pawnbrokers, nor shall there be any sign displayed which is calculated to deceive, nor shall the word “pawnbroker” be used in or about the premises of business or in any advertising matter or other printed matter nor shall any such person hold himself out to the public to be a pawnbroker, either through advertising, soliciting, signs or otherwise.
