- person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. All transient merchants or itinerant vendors shall, before offering for sale any personal property, pay to the licensing official of the municipality in which such sale is to take place, a sum of not more than one thousand dollars, and upon payment of such sum as may be specified in the ordinances of the municipality in which the transient merchant or itinerant vendor is to do business, he shall be entitled to apply for and receive a license which shall continue in favor of the person to whom it is issued for the period of one hundred and eighty days from the day of issuance.
