  • Chambers: A judge's office.
  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Disability: shall mean , with respect to an individual:

    (a) a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of the major life activities of such individual;

    (b) a record of such an impairment; or

    (c) being regarded as having an impairment. See N.Y. Economic Development Law Law 210
  • Entrepreneurship assistance centers: shall mean the business development centers which provide assistance to primarily minority group members, women, individuals with a disability, dislocated workers and veterans as established by the department pursuant to section two hundred eleven of this article. See N.Y. Economic Development Law Law 210
  • Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
  • Lease: A contract transferring the use of property or occupancy of land, space, structures, or equipment in consideration of a payment (e.g., rent). Source: OCC
  • Lien: A claim against real or personal property in satisfaction of a debt.
  • Minority business enterprise: shall mean any business enterprise which is at least fifty-one per centum owned by, or in the case of a publicly owned business at least fifty-one per centum of the stock of which is owned by, citizens or permanent resident noncitizens who are Black, Hispanic, Asian or American Indian, Pacific Islander or Alaskan Native where such ownership interest is real, substantial and continuing and where such persons have the authority to independently control the day-to-day business decisions of the entity.   • Partnership: A voluntary contract between two or more persons to pool some or all of their assets into a business, with the agreement that there will be a proportional sharing of profits and losses.
  • Person: means any individual, firm, co-partnership, association or corporation other than the state and a "public corporation. See N.Y. Environmental Conservation Law 15-0107
  • Public corporation: means "public corporation" as defined in subdivision one of § 3 of the General Corporation Law and includes all public authorities, except the Power Authority of the State of New York. See N.Y. Environmental Conservation Law 15-0107
  • Public law: A public bill or joint resolution that has passed both chambers and been enacted into law. Public laws have general applicability nationwide.
  • Real property: Land, and all immovable fixtures erected on, growing on, or affixed to the land.
  • Veteran: shall mean a person who served in the United States army, navy, air force, marines, coast guard, and/or reserves thereof, and/or in the army national guard, air national guard, New York guard and/or New York naval militia and who (a) has received an honorable or general discharge from such service, or (b) has a qualifying condition, as defined in section one of the veterans' services law, and has received a discharge other than bad conduct or dishonorable from such service, or (c) is a discharged LGBT veteran, as defined in section one of the veterans' services law, and has received a discharge other than bad conduct or dishonorable from such service.   • Waters: shall be construed to include lakes, bays, sounds, ponds, impounding reservoirs, springs, wells, rivers, streams, creeks, estuaries, marshes, inlets, canals, the Atlantic ocean within the territorial limits of the state of New York, and all other bodies of surface or underground water, natural or artificial, inland or coastal, fresh or salt, public or private, which are wholly or partially within or bordering the state or within its jurisdiction.
