- Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
- Municipal corporations: as used in this article shall mean a county, city, town or village. See N.Y. General Municipal Law 360
- Public utility service: as used in this article shall mean any service authorized to be furnished by any public utility company pursuant to article four of the public service law and shall include works, structures, poles, lines, wires, conduits, mains, systems, waterpower and any and all other real and personal property used or necessary for, connected with or appertaining to the furnishing of such service.
