§ 542. City laboratories; boards of managers; appointment. 1. (a) The mayor of any city establishing a laboratory in accordance with the provisions of this article shall appoint the board of managers of such laboratory which board shall consist of at least five members, two of them shall be physicians duly licensed to practice in the state of New York. The county medical society may present to the mayor a list of names of physicians residing in the city from which he may choose the medical members of the board of managers.

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.

(d) The president of the local board of health, if such office exists, and the local commissioner of health or health officer shall be ex-officio members of the board of managers of the laboratory.

2. In cities when more than one laboratory is established, only one board of managers shall be appointed, which shall have jurisdiction over all the laboratories established or operating under sections five hundred forty to five hundred forty-three inclusive, of this chapter, in said city.
