(a)        The Commissioner, or any person he or she may appoint, may examine any domestic, foreign or alien society transacting or applying for admission to transact business in this State in the same manner as authorized for examination of domestic, foreign or alien insurers. Requirements of notice and an opportunity to respond before findings are made public as provided in the laws regulating insurers shall also be applicable to the examination of societies.

  • Laws: shall mean the society's articles of incorporation, constitution and bylaws, however designated. See North Carolina General Statutes 58-24-15
  • Society: shall mean fraternal benefit society, unless otherwise indicated. See North Carolina General Statutes 58-24-15
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories, so called; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the said district and territories and all dependencies.
