Chapter 6111 of the Revised Code does not abridge rights of action or remedies in equity or under the common law, nor does such chapter, or any act done under such chapter, estop the state, or any municipal corporation or person, as riparian owners or otherwise, in the exercise of their rights in equity or under the common law to suppress nuisances or to abate pollution.

Terms Used In Ohio Code 6111.08

  • Common law: The legal system that originated in England and is now in use in the United States. It is based on judicial decisions rather than legislative action.
  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Person: means the state, any municipal corporation, any other political subdivision of the state, any person as defined in section 1. See Ohio Code 6111.01
  • Pollution: means the placing of any sewage, sludge, sludge materials, industrial waste, or other wastes in any waters of the state. See Ohio Code 6111.01
  • state: means the state of Ohio. See Ohio Code 1.59
