(a) Funds received under this chapter may only be used for activities promoting the sale of Texas agricultural products. The department by rule may allocate funds to categories of eligible participants and to general or product-specific promotional activities. The department may use the funds in an amount not to exceed $5,000 in a state fiscal year for the purchase of food and beverage refreshments at “Go Texan” promotional events.
(b) The department shall adopt rules to ensure that money in the “Go Texan” partner program account is used only for the purposes prescribed under this section.

  • Appropriation: The provision of funds, through an annual appropriations act or a permanent law, for federal agencies to make payments out of the Treasury for specified purposes. The formal federal spending process consists of two sequential steps: authorization
  • Department: means the Department of Agriculture. See Texas Agriculture Code 1.003
  • Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.

(c) The payment of the administrative expenses under the program may not exceed seven percent of the amount of the legislative appropriation each biennium for the “Go Texan” partner program account.
