- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
The district court judges with jurisdiction in Denton County and the judges of the criminal statutory county courts of Denton County may, with the approval of the Commissioners Court of Denton County and two-thirds of the district court and criminal statutory county court judges, appoint a district or criminal statutory county court judge qualified under § 54.2807 as the criminal law magistrate court associate judge to:
(1) serve the district and criminal county courts of Denton County;
(2) oversee the criminal law magistrate court; and
(3) recommend for appointment full-time and part-time jail magistrates.
