Terms Used In Texas Health and Safety Code 193.012

  • Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
  • Decedent: A deceased person.
  • Written: includes any representation of words, letters, symbols, or figures. See Texas Government Code 311.005

For a death certificate that is not a pending death certificate, a person who submits to the department a request for an amendment to modify the medical certification information on the certificate shall provide in the manner prescribed by the department written notice of the modification to a decedent‘s next of kin.
