(a) A person who owns or keeps custody or control of a dangerous dog commits an offense if the person fails to comply with § 822.042 or § 822.0422(b) or an applicable municipal or county regulation relating to dangerous dogs.
(b) Except as provided by Subsection (c), an offense under this section is a Class C misdemeanor.

- Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
- Person: includes corporation, organization, government or governmental subdivision or agency, business trust, estate, trust, partnership, association, and any other legal entity. See Texas Government Code 311.005
- Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.
(c) An offense under this section is a Class B misdemeanor if it is shown on the trial of the offense that the defendant has previously been convicted under this section.
