  • Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
  • Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.

A member of the commission is a county officer described by § 87.012(15) and may be removed as provided by Chapter 87 if, after a trial, the jury finds good cause for removal, including:
(1) failure to pay local, state, or federal taxes when due;
(2) violation of the ethics code adopted by the commission;
(3) conviction of a felony or misdemeanor;
(4) excessive absenteeism as determined by the commission; and
(5) official misconduct.
