Terms Used In Texas Local Government Code 43.013

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Municipality: means a general-law municipality, home-rule municipality, or special-law municipality. See Texas Local Government Code 1.005

The governing body of a municipality by ordinance may annex any navigable stream adjacent to the municipality and within the municipality’s extraterritorial jurisdiction under the procedures prescribed by Subchapter C-1.
