  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.

If the territory of the district is located in the corporate boundaries or the extraterritorial jurisdiction of a municipality, the district may not exercise a power granted to the district after the date the district was created unless the governing body of the municipality by resolution consents to the district’s exercise of the power.
