Terms Used In Texas Special District Local Laws Code 5010.0305

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.

Except as provided by Section 5010.0303, the district’s powers are concurrent with, but do not supersede or interfere with, the jurisdiction and powers of the Sabine-Neches Navigation District of Jefferson County, Texas, created under Section 59, Article XVI, Texas Constitution, over the common territory of the two districts.
