- Lawsuit: A legal action started by a plaintiff against a defendant based on a complaint that the defendant failed to perform a legal duty, resulting in harm to the plaintiff.
This chapter applies to any claim arising prior to the effective date of this chapter if that claim is filed with the Legislature within two years after the lawsuit was filed.
