The division is responsible for the investigation of a person or an activity that violates the provisions of this chapter. |

| (2) |
An investigation by the division may include:
| (a) |
a requirement that potential administrative appeals described in Section 15A-1-207 have been exhausted before conducting the investigation; |
| (b) |
an investigation of a person engaged in unlawful or unprofessional conduct; and |
| (c) |
a referral to the Uniform Building Code Commission to review a dispute involving an application or interpretation of a building code or construction law by a licensee. |
