- Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
- Arrest: Taking physical custody of a person by lawful authority.
- Attachment: A procedure by which a person's property is seized to pay judgments levied by the court.
- Ballot: means the storage medium, including a paper, mechanical, or electronic storage medium, that records an individual voter's vote. See Utah Code 20A-1-102
- Bond election: means an election held for the purpose of approving or rejecting the proposed issuance of bonds by a government entity. See Utah Code 20A-1-102
- Bureau: means the Bureau of Criminal Identification created in Section 53-10-201. See Utah Code 53-5c-102
- Cohabitant: means an individual who:
(a) is 18 years old or older; (b) resides in the same home with another individual; and (c) (i) is living as if a spouse of the individual; (ii) is related by blood or marriage to the individual; (iii) has one or more children in common with the individual; or (iv) has an interest in the safety and well-being of the individual. See Utah Code 53-5c-102 - Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- Department: means the Department of Public Safety created in Section 53-1-103. See Utah Code 53-1-102
- Domestic violence: means the same as that term is defined in Section 77-36-1. See Utah Code 53-5c-102
- Election: means a regular general election, a municipal general election, a statewide special election, a local special election, a regular primary election, a municipal primary election, and a special district election. See Utah Code 20A-1-102
- Firearm: means a device from which is expelled a projectile by action of an explosive. See Utah Code 53-5b-103
- Firearm: means a pistol, revolver, shotgun, short barrel shotgun, rifle or short barrel rifle, or a device that could be used as a dangerous weapon from which is expelled a projectile by action of an explosive. See Utah Code 53-5c-102
- Firearm accessory: means an item that is used in conjunction with or mounted upon a firearm, firearm action, or firearm receiver but is not essential to the basic function of a firearm, including:
(a) a telescopic or laser sight; (b) a magazine; (c) a flash or sound suppressor; (d) a folding or aftermarket stock or grip; (e) a speed-loader; (f) an ammunition carrier; and (g) a light for target illumination. See Utah Code 53-5b-103 - Health care provider: means a person:
(a) who provides health care or professional services related to health care; and (b) is acting within the scope of the person's license, certification, practice, education, or training. See Utah Code 53-5c-102 - Illegal firearm: means a firearm the ownership or possession of which is prohibited under state or federal law. See Utah Code 53-5c-102
- Jail release agreement: means the same as that term is defined in Section 78B-7-801. See Utah Code 53-5c-102
- Jail release court order: means the same as that term is defined in Section 78B-7-801. See Utah Code 53-5c-102
- Law enforcement agency: means an entity or division of:
(i) (A) the federal government, a state, or a political subdivision of a state; (B) a state institution of higher education; or (C) a private institution of higher education, if the entity or division is certified by the commissioner under Title 53, Chapter 19, Certification of Private Law Enforcement Agency; and (ii) that exists primarily to prevent and detect crime and enforce criminal laws, statutes, and ordinances. See Utah Code 53-1-102 - Law enforcement agency: means a municipal or county police agency or an officer of that agency. See Utah Code 53-5c-102
- Law enforcement officer: means the same as that term is defined in Section 53-13-103. See Utah Code 53-1-102
- Local special election: means a special election called by the governing body of a local political subdivision in which all registered voters of the local political subdivision may vote. See Utah Code 20A-1-102
- Manufactured: means creating a firearm, a firearm action or receiver, a firearm accessory, or ammunition from basic materials for functional usefulness, including:
(a) forging; (b) casting; (c) machining; and (d) another process for working materials. See Utah Code 53-5b-103 - Municipal general election: means the election held in municipalities and, as applicable, special districts on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of each odd-numbered year for the purposes established in Section 20A-1-202. See Utah Code 20A-1-102
- Municipal primary election: means an election held to nominate candidates for municipal office. See Utah Code 20A-1-102
- Owner cohabitant: means a cohabitant who:
(a) is 18 years old or older; and (b) owns a firearm. See Utah Code 53-5c-102 - Person: means :Utah Code 68-3-12.5
- Political party: means an organization of registered voters that has qualified to participate in an election by meeting the requirements of Chapter 8, Political Party Formation and Procedures. See Utah Code 20A-1-102
- Presidential Primary Election: means the election established in 8. See Utah Code 20A-1-102
- Probable cause: A reasonable ground for belief that the offender violated a specific law.
- Process: means a writ or summons issued in the course of a judicial proceeding. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
- Regular primary election: means the election, held on the date specified in Section 20A-1-201. See Utah Code 20A-1-102
- Resident: means a person who resides within a specific voting precinct in Utah. See Utah Code 20A-1-102
- Return envelope: means the envelope, described in Subsection 20A-3a-202(4), provided to a voter with a manual ballot:
(a) into which the voter places the manual ballot after the voter has voted the manual ballot in order to preserve the secrecy of the voter's vote; and (b) that includes the voter affidavit and a place for the voter's signature. See Utah Code 20A-1-102 - Signature: includes a name, mark, or sign written with the intent to authenticate an instrument or writing. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
- Special district: means a local government entity under Title 17B, Limited Purpose Local Government Entities - Special Districts, and includes a special service district under Title 17D, Chapter 1, Special Service District Act. See Utah Code 20A-1-102
- Special election: means an election held as authorized by Section 20A-1-203. See Utah Code 20A-1-102
- State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes a state, district, or territory of the United States. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
- United States: includes each state, district, and territory of the United States of America. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
- Voter: means an individual who:
(a) meets the requirements for voting in an election; (b) meets the requirements of election registration; (c) is registered to vote; and (d) is listed in the official register book. See Utah Code 20A-1-102 - Writing: includes :Utah Code 68-3-12.5
