  • Civil union: means that two eligible persons have established a relationship pursuant to this chapter, and may receive the benefits and protections and be subject to the responsibilities of spouses. See
  • Person: shall include any natural person, corporation, municipality, the State of Vermont or any department, agency, or subdivision of the State, and any partnership, unincorporated association, or other legal entity. See

§ 1203. Person shall not enter a civil union with a relative

(a) A woman shall not enter a civil union with her mother, grandmother, daughter, granddaughter, sister, brother’s daughter, sister’s daughter, father’s sister, or mother’s sister.

(b) A man shall not enter a civil union with his father, grandfather, son, grandson, brother, brother’s son, sister’s son, father’s brother, or mother’s brother.

(c) A civil union between persons prohibited from entering a civil union in subsection (a) or (b) of this section is void. (Added 1999, No. 91 (Adj. Sess.), § 3.)

  • Foreign country: means a country, including a political subdivision thereof, other than the U. See

  • State: means a state of the United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the U. See
  • Tribunal: means a court, administrative agency, or quasi-judicial entity authorized to establish, enforce, or modify support orders or to determine parentage of a child. See

§ 1203. Initiating and responding tribunal

Under this title, a tribunal of this State may serve as an initiating tribunal to forward proceedings to a tribunal of another state, and as a responding tribunal for proceedings initiated in another state or foreign country. (Added 2015, No. 16, § 2, eff. June 1, 2015.)
