A bank, or, subject to the limitations of s. 221.0901, a bank holding company, may, with the approval of the division, acquire and hold stock, in an aggregate amount not exceeding 10 percent of its capital, in one or more of the following:

  • Acquire: when used in connection with a grant of power to any person, includes the acquisition by purchase, grant, gift or bequest. See Wisconsin Statutes 990.01
  • Following: when used by way of reference to any statute section, means the section next following that in which the reference is made. See Wisconsin Statutes 990.01
  • National Bank: A bank that is subject to the supervision of the Comptroller of the Currency. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency is a bureau of the U.S. Treasury Department. A national bank can be recognized because it must have "national" or "national association" in its name. Source: OCC
   (1)   A bank chartered under s. 221.1202.
   (2)   A national bank chartered under 12 U.S. Code § 27 (b).
   (3)   A bank holding company wholly owning a bank described under sub. (1) or (2).
