Terms Used In Wisconsin Statutes 68.04

  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • State: when applied to states of the United States, includes the District of Columbia, the commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the several territories organized by Congress. See Wisconsin Statutes 990.01
  • Statute: A law passed by a legislature.
  • Town: may be construed to include cities, villages, wards or districts. See Wisconsin Statutes 990.01
  • Village: means incorporated village. See Wisconsin Statutes 990.01

In this chapter, “municipality” includes any county, city, village, town, technical college district, special purpose district, or board or commission thereof, and any public or quasi-public corporation or board or commission created pursuant to statute, ordinance, or resolution, but does not include the state, a state agency, a corporation chartered by the state, or a school district as defined in s. 115.01 (3).
