Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 18A:40-8

  • Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.
  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State.   • School nurse: shall mean and include any school nurse, school nurse supervisor, head school nurse, chief school nurse, school nurse coordinator or any other nurse performing school nursing services in the public schools. See New Jersey Statutes 18A:1-1
The principal may, upon the recommendation of the school physician or the school nurse, if either of them are present in the building, exclude from school any pupil who has been exposed to a communicable disease or whose presence in the school room certified by the medical inspector as detrimental to the health or cleanliness of the pupils in the school, and in the absence from the building of the school physician or school nurse, the classroom teacher may exclude the pupil from the classroom and the principal may exclude the pupil from the school building and the principal or the classroom teacher, as the case may be, shall notify the parent, guardian or other person having control of the pupil of the reason for his exclusion.
