Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 27:25-5.22

  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. 1. a. The corporation shall designate an employee within the New Jersey Transit Police Department to serve as a liaison between the corporation and the New Jersey Transit Police Department and a person injured, or any member of the person’s immediate family if the person was killed, as a result of an incident involving a motorbus or rail or light rail vehicle operated by or under contract with the corporation. The designated employee shall:

(1) provide in an appropriate and sensitive manner any information, to the extent permitted by law, to the person injured or, for a person killed, a member of the person’s immediate family, and promptly respond to any reasonable inquiry by the person injured or, for a person killed, a member of the person’s immediate family; and

(2) upon the conclusion of an investigation related to a person injured or killed, return in an appropriate and sensitive manner all personal belongings in the possession of the corporation to the person injured or, for a person killed, a member of the person’s immediate family.

b. As used in P.L.2018, c.113 (C. 27:25-5.22), “member of the person’s immediate family” means a spouse, parent, child, sibling, grandparent, grandchild, aunt, uncle, or next of kin.
