  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • County: includes city and county. See California Health and Safety Code 14
  • Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
  • department: means State Department of Health Services. See California Health and Safety Code 20
  • District: as used in this chapter , means any pest abatement district formed pursuant to this chapter or pursuant to any law which it supersedes. See California Health and Safety Code 2802
  • Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
  • Mortgage: The written agreement pledging property to a creditor as collateral for a loan.

  • Pest: as used in this chapter , includes any plant, animal, insect, fish, or other matter or material, not under human control, which is offensive to the senses or interferes with the comfortable enjoyment of life, or which is detrimental to the agricultural industry of the State, and is not protected under any other provision of law.   • State: means the State of California, unless applied to the different parts of the United States. See California Health and Safety Code 23
