  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. 6. a. No person licensed to act within this State as a student loan servicer shall do so under any other name or at any other place of business than that named in the license. Any change of location of a place of business of a licensee shall require prior written notice to the commissioner. Not more than one place of business shall be maintained under the same license but the commissioner may issue more than one license to the same licensee upon compliance with the provisions of this act as to each new licensee. A license shall not be transferable or assignable.

b. A student loan servicer shall keep on file with the commissioner a surety bond obtained from a surety company authorized to transact business in this State in an amount of not less than $30,000. The commissioner shall, by regulation, provide who shall be eligible to receive the protection afforded by the bond and may increase the required bond amount, if he determines it to be necessary. When an action is commenced on the bond, the commissioner may require the filing of a new bond and immediately on recovery of any action on the bond, the student loan servicer shall file a new bond.
