Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 18A:27-10

  • Board: means the board of education. See New Jersey Statutes 18A:1-1
  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • Employment: includes employment in a position. See New Jersey Statutes 18A:1-1
  • Teaching staff member: means a member of the professional staff of any district or regional board of education, or any board of education of a county vocational school, holding office, position or employment of such character that the qualifications, for such office, position or employment, require him to hold a valid and effective standard, provisional or emergency certificate, appropriate to his office, position or employment, issued by the State Board of Examiners and includes a school nurse and a school athletic trainer. See New Jersey Statutes 18A:1-1
1. On or before May 15 in each year, each nontenured teaching staff member continuously employed by a board of education since the preceding September 30 shall receive either

a. A written offer of a contract for employment from the board of education for the next succeeding year providing for at least the same terms and conditions of employment but with such increases in salary as may be required by law or policies of the board of education, or

b. A written notice from the chief school administrator that such employment will not be offered.
