Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 18A:71B-102

  • Board: means the board of education. See New Jersey Statutes 18A:1-1
  • Dependent: A person dependent for support upon another.
  • Higher education: means that education which is provided by any or all of the public institutions of higher education as herein defined and any or all equivalent private institutions. See New Jersey Statutes 18A:1-1
  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. 5. a. A Military Dependents Scholarship shall not be awarded to an applicant unless the applicant has demonstrated to the satisfaction of the board that the applicant:

(1) will be or is enrolled in a full-time undergraduate program of study leading to a degree at an institution of higher education; and

(2) has complied with all rules and regulations adopted pursuant to this act for the award, regulation and administration of scholarships from the fund.

b. Eligibility for a Military Survivors Scholarship, in the case of a spouse or other eligible dependent, shall be limited to a period of 15 years from the date of death of the person, the date the person is officially listed as “Missing in Action” or the date upon which the person is certified to have been totally and permanently disabled for initial receipt of the benefits under the program. In the case of a dependent child, eligibility shall be limited to a period of eight years following graduation from high school.
