Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 26:8-25.1

  • Authentication: means the entry by the Chief State Medical Examiner, Deputy Chief State Medical Examiner, or a county or intercounty medical examiner or assistant county or intercounty medical examiner, funeral director or physician into the New Jersey Electronic Death Registration System of a personal identification code, digital signature or other identifier unique to that user, by which the information entered into the system by the user is authenticated by the user who assumes responsibility for its accuracy.   • district: means a registration district as constituted by this article. See New Jersey Statutes 26:8-1
  • NJ-EDRS: is a n electronic registration system for completing a certification of death or fetal death record that is authorized, designed and maintained by the State registrar. See New Jersey Statutes 26:8-1
  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State.   • registrar: means the local registrar of vital statistics of any district. See New Jersey Statutes 26:8-1
  • State: extends to and includes any State, territory or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia and the Canal Zone. See New Jersey Statutes 1:1-2
  • State registrar: means the State registrar of vital statistics. See New Jersey Statutes 26:8-1
27. The State registrar may suspend the authority of a local registrar, deputy registrar, alternate deputy registrar or subregistrar to participate in the NJ-EDRS, and thereby preclude that person from doing burial permitting or death registration, if the State registrar determines that the applicable registration district is insufficiently equipped or provides untimely service with respect to the review and final authentication of records. In that event, the State registrar may assign a local registrar, deputy registrar, alternate deputy registrar or subregistrar from another registration district to substitute for the person in question until such time as the applicable registration district meets the standards established by the State registrar.
