Terms Used In Florida Statutes 468.607

  • Board: means the Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board. See Florida Statutes 468.603
  • Building code inspector: means any of those employees of local governments or state agencies, or any person contracted, with building construction regulation responsibilities who themselves conduct inspections of building construction, erection, repair, addition, or alteration projects that require permitting indicating compliance with building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, gas, fire prevention, energy, accessibility, and other construction codes as required by state law or municipal or county ordinance.   • Certificate: means a certificate of qualification issued by the department as provided in this part. See Florida Statutes 468.603
  • person: includes individuals, children, firms, associations, joint adventures, partnerships, estates, trusts, business trusts, syndicates, fiduciaries, corporations, and all other groups or combinations. See Florida Statutes 1.01
  • Plans examiner: means a person who is qualified to determine that plans submitted for purposes of obtaining building and other permits comply with the applicable building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, gas, fire prevention, energy, accessibility, and other applicable construction codes. See Florida Statutes 468.603
The board shall issue a certificate to any individual whom the board determines to be qualified, within such class and level as provided in this part and with such limitations as the board may place upon it. No person may be employed by a state agency or local governmental authority to perform the duties of a building code administrator, plans examiner, or building code inspector after October 1, 1993, without possessing the proper valid certificate issued in accordance with the provisions of this part. Any person who acts as an inspector and plans examiner under s. 1013.37 while conducting activities authorized by certification under that section is certified to continue to conduct inspections for a local enforcement agency until the person’s UBCI certification expires, after which time such person must possess the proper valid certificate issued in accordance with this part.
