The author of a power as the term is used in this chapter is the person by whom a power is created, whether by grant or devise; and the holder of a power is the person in whom the power is vested, whether by grant, devise, or reservation.

- Devise: To gift property by will.
- Person: includes natural persons, partnerships, associations, cooperative corporations, limited liability companies, and corporations. See South Dakota Codified Laws 2-14-2
