Terms Used In Texas Government Code 665.025

  • Adjourn: A motion to adjourn a legislative chamber or a committee, if passed, ends that day's session.
  • Impeachment: (1) The process of calling something into question, as in "impeaching the testimony of a witness." (2) The constitutional process whereby the House of Representatives may "impeach" (accuse of misconduct) high officers of the federal government for trial in the Senate.
  • Recess: A temporary interruption of the legislative business.
  • Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.

The senate may recess or adjourn during the impeachment trial to a time to be set by the senate. The senate may condition reconvening on the occurrence of an event specified in the motion.
