- Obligation: An order placed, contract awarded, service received, or similar transaction during a given period that will require payments during the same or a future period.
An obligation must be repaid from:
(1) a source of security for the payment of the obligation;
(2) money received from a credit agreement; or
(3) any other revenue legally available for the payment of the obligation.
