Terms Used In U.S. Code > Title 29 > Chapter 16 - Vocational Rehabilitation and Other Rehabilitation Services
- Administrator: means the Administrator of the Administration for Community Living of the Department of Health and Human Services. See 29 USC 796a
- agency: includes any department, independent establishment, commission, administration, authority, board or bureau of the United States or any corporation in which the United States has a proprietary interest, unless the context shows that such term was intended to be used in a more limited sense. See 16 USC 7144
- association: when used in reference to a corporation, shall be deemed to embrace the words "successors and assigns of such company or association" in like manner as if these last-named words, or words of similar import, were expressed. See 1 USC 5
- Board: means any Regional Marine Research board 1 established pursuant to section 1447b(a) of this title. See 16 USC 1433
- center for independent living: means a consumer-controlled, community-based, cross-disability, nonresidential private nonprofit agency for individuals with significant disabilities (regardless of age or income) that&mdash. See 29 USC 796a
- Chairman: means the Chairman of the National Advisory Council on International Monetary and Financial Policies. See 22 USC 262p-4o
- consumer control: means , with respect to a center for independent living, that the center vests power and authority in individuals with disabilities, in terms of the management, staffing, decisionmaking, operation, and provisions of services, of the center. See 29 USC 796a
- county: includes a parish, or any other equivalent subdivision of a State or Territory of the United States. See 1 USC 2
- department: means one of the executive departments enumerated in section 1 of Title 5, unless the context shows that such term was intended to describe the executive, legislative, or judicial branches of the government. See 16 USC 7144
- eligible agency: means a consumer-controlled, community-based, cross-disability, nonresidential private nonprofit agency. See 29 USC 796f-5
- Federal agency: means any department, agency, or other instrumentality of the Federal Government, including any independent agency or establishment of the Federal Government and any government corporation. See 16 USC 1433
- individual: shall include every infant member of the species homo sapiens who is born alive at any stage of development. See 1 USC 8
- international financial institutions: means the International Monetary Fund, International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, International Development Association, International Finance Corporation, Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency, African Development Bank, African Development Fund, Asian Development Bank, Inter-American Development Bank 2 Bank for Economic Cooperation and Development in the Middle East and North Africa,,3 and Inter-American Investment Corporation. See 22 USC 262p-4o
- oath: includes affirmation, and "sworn" includes affirmed. See 1 USC 1
- officer: includes any person authorized by law to perform the duties of the office. See 1 USC 1
- region: means 1 of the 9 regions described in section 1447b(a) of this title. See 16 USC 1433
- State: means a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or any other territory or possession of the United States. See 1 USC 7
- State: means a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. See 16 USC 1433
- United States: as used in this title in a territorial sense, includes all places and waters, continental or insular, subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, except the Canal Zone. See 16 USC 7143a
- vehicle: includes every description of carriage or other artificial contrivance used, or capable of being used, as a means of transportation on land. See 1 USC 4
- vessel: includes every description of watercraft or other artificial contrivance used, or capable of being used, as a means of transportation on water. See 1 USC 3
- whoever: include corporations, companies, associations, firms, partnerships, societies, and joint stock companies, as well as individuals. See 1 USC 1
- writing: includes printing and typewriting and reproductions of visual symbols by photographing, multigraphing, mimeographing, manifolding, or otherwise. See 1 USC 1
