Terms Used In Alaska Statutes 34.35.465
- Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
- Lien: A claim against real or personal property in satisfaction of a debt.
- person: includes a corporation, company, partnership, firm, association, organization, business trust, or society, as well as a natural person. See Alaska Statutes 01.10.060
- Settlement: Parties to a lawsuit resolve their difference without having a trial. Settlements often involve the payment of compensation by one party in satisfaction of the other party's claims.
- state: means the State of Alaska unless applied to the different parts of the United States and in the latter case it includes the District of Columbia and the territories. See Alaska Statutes 01.10.060
The form of notice required by Alaska Stat. § 34.35.450 – 34.35.480 shall be substantially as follows:
NOTICE is hereby given that ……………………………. has rendered services for hospitalization, physician services, or special nurses’ services for ……………………………., a person who was injured on the ………. day of ………. at ………. in the state, and the …………………………………………….. (claimant) hereby claims a lien upon any money due or owing or any claim for compensation, damages, contribution, settlement, or judgment from …………………………………………….. alleged to have caused the injuries and any other person liable for the injury or obligated to compensate the injured person on account of the injuries; the hospitalization, physician services, or special nurses’ services were rendered to the injured person between the ………. day of ………. and ……………………………………………..:
