(a) Subject to valid existing rights, the state-owned or acquired land and water lying within the parcels described in (d) and (e) of this section is designated as the Southeast State Forest.

Terms Used In Alaska Statutes 41.17.500

  • Entitlement: A Federal program or provision of law that requires payments to any person or unit of government that meets the eligibility criteria established by law. Entitlements constitute a binding obligation on the part of the Federal Government, and eligible recipients have legal recourse if the obligation is not fulfilled. Social Security and veterans' compensation and pensions are examples of entitlement programs.
  • state: means the State of Alaska unless applied to the different parts of the United States and in the latter case it includes the District of Columbia and the territories. See Alaska Statutes 01.10.060
  • state forest: means an area designated by the legislature and retained in state ownership in order to
    (A) provide a base for sustained yield management of renewable resources. See Alaska Statutes 41.17.950
(b) The commissioner shall prepare a management plan for the Southeast State Forest under Alaska Stat. § 41.17.230.
(c) The commissioner may establish transportation corridors within the Southeast State Forest.
(d) The Southeast State Forest includes the state-owned or acquired land within the following described parcels:

(f) Nothing in this section prevents the City and Borough of Wrangell from exercising its land selection rights under Alaska Stat. § 29.65.040(d) to state land within its boundaries. If new municipalities are incorporated before June 30, 2019, and lands designated in (d) and (e) of this section are within their boundaries, those lands that were classified as vacant, unappropriated, unreserved state land before establishment of the Southeast State Forest shall be used to calculate the municipal entitlement acreage under Alaska Stat. § 29.65.030 but may not be selected.
