  • Account: means any deposit or credit account with a bank, including a demand, time, savings, passbook, share draft, or like account, other than an account evidenced by a certificate of deposit. See California Education Code 81645
  • Advertising medium: includes banner, sign, placard, poster, streamer, and card. See California Government Code 53202.25
  • Affected county: means any county which contains or would contain territory which is the subject of a boundary change. See California Government Code 14050
  • Affected territory: means any unincorporated area which is proposed to be transferred from one county to another. See California Government Code 14050
  • Afternoon: means the period of a day between noon and midnight. See California Education Code 81645
  • Age: refers to the chronological age of any individual who has reached a 40th birthday. See California Government Code 31644
  • Assisted reproduction: means conception by any means other than sexual intercourse. See California Health and Safety Code 104181
  • Assisted reproduction agreement: means a written contract that includes a person who intends to be the legal parent of a child or children born through assisted reproduction and that defines the terms of the relationship between the parties to the contract.   • Attendance: means the number of children present at a child care and development facility. See California Education Code 8208
  • Banking day: means the part of a day on which a bank is open to the public for carrying on substantially all of its banking functions. See California Education Code 81645
  • Bonds: means bonds, warrants, notes or other evidences of indebtedness of a local agency or zone or improvement district thereof. See California Government Code 53530
  • bonds: includes bonds, warrants, notes, or other evidences of indebtedness of a local agency, zone or improvement district except those which under Section 18 of Article XI or other provision of the Constitution of the State of California are required to be authorized at an election.   • boxing: as used in this chapter includes "kickboxing" and "martial arts. See California Government Code 53600.3
  • Bulk packaging: means the same as defined in Section 171. See California Education Code 8423
  • Buyer: means the person who buys or hires a motor vehicle under a conditional sale contract. See California Education Code 8361
  • commission: means the California Transportation Commission. See California Government Code 14002.5
  • Conditional sale contract: means :

  • Conducting county: means any county whose board of supervisors adopts a resolution pursuant to Section 23206. See California Government Code 14050
  • corporation: includes a limited liability company. See California Government Code 53601.2
  • Cost: includes , but is not limited to, expenditures that are related to the operation of child care and development programs. See California Education Code 8208
  • Council: means the Fair Employment and Housing Council and "council member" means a member of the council. See California Government Code 31643
  • creed: include all aspects of religious belief, observance, and practice, including religious dress and grooming practices. See California Government Code 31644
  • Customer: means a person having an account with a bank or for whom a bank has agreed to collect items, including a bank that maintains an account at another bank. See California Education Code 81645
  • Department: means the Department of Fair Employment and Housing. See California Government Code 31643
  • department: refer to the Director and Department of Finance, respectively, unless the context otherwise requires. See California Government Code 13001
  • Department: means the Department of Transportation. See California Government Code 14002.5
  • Developmental engine fuel: means an engine fuel that does not meet standards established by this chapter but has characteristics that may lead to an improved fuel standard or the development of an alternative fuel standard. See California Government Code 53202.25
  • Diesel fuel: means any hydrocarbon oil meant for combustion in compression-ignition engines offered for sale that meets the standards for diesel fuel prescribed by this chapter. See California Government Code 53202.25
  • Director: means the Director of Fair Employment and Housing. See California Government Code 31643
  • Discrimination: includes refusal to sell, rent, or lease housing accommodations. See California Government Code 31646.1
  • Disease: means Lyme disease recognized by the presence of the spirochete (borrelia burgdorferi), a spiral-shaped bacterium, in the human body. See California Health and Safety Code 104190
  • Documentary draft: means a draft to be presented for acceptance or payment if specified documents, certificated securities (Section 8102) or instructions for uncertificated securities (Section 8102), or other certificates, statements, or the like are to be received by the drawee or other payor before acceptance or payment of the draft. See California Education Code 81645
  • Draft: means a draft as defined in Section 3104 or an item, other than an instrument, that is an order. See California Education Code 81645
  • Drawee: means a person ordered in a draft to make payment. See California Education Code 81645
  • Employer: includes any person regularly employing five or more persons, or any person acting as an agent of an employer, directly or indirectly, the state or any political or civil subdivision of the state, and cities, except as follows:

  • Engine fuel: means any gasoline, diesel, or alternative fuel used for the generation of power in an internal combustion engine or fuel cell in a motor vehicle, or electrical power delivered conductively or inductively to an electric motor in electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles.   • Gasoline: means a volatile mixture of liquid hydrocarbons, generally containing small amounts of additives, suitable for use as a fuel in a spark-ignition internal combustion engine. See California Government Code 53202.25
  • Gender: means sex, and includes a person's gender identity and gender expression. See California Government Code 31644
  • Gender expression: means a person's gender-related appearance and behavior whether or not stereotypically associated with the person's assigned sex at birth. See California Government Code 31644
  • Genetic information: includes any request for, or receipt of, genetic services, or participation in clinical research that includes genetic services, by an individual or any family member of the individual. See California Government Code 31644
  • Governing body: means the board of supervisors in the case of a county, or the city council or board of trustees or other governing board in the case of a city, district, or other local governmental agency. See California Government Code 14055
  • Housing accommodation: means any building, structure, or portion thereof that is occupied as, or intended for occupancy as, a residence by one or more families and any vacant land that is offered for sale or lease for the construction thereon of any building, structure, or portion thereof intended to be so occupied. See California Government Code 31646.1
  • Inhabited territory: means territory within which there reside 12 or more registered voters at the time a resolution is adopted pursuant to Section 23203 or a petition is filed pursuant to Section 23205. See California Government Code 14050
  • Inhalation hazard: means any material defined as "Poison A" pursuant to Section 173. See California Education Code 8423
  • Initiating county: means any county whose board of supervisors adopts a resolution pursuant to Section 23203. See California Government Code 14050
  • Inspection stop: means any location designated as such in regulations adopted pursuant to this division or any safe stopping place. See California Education Code 8423
  • Item: means an instrument or a promise or order to pay money handled by a bank for collection or payment. See California Education Code 81645
  • Legislative body: means the board of supervisors of a county or city, or the governing board, by whatever name called, of a school district, district, municipal corporation, political subdivision, public corporation, or other public agency of the state. See California Government Code 53200
  • Legislative body: means the legislative body, as defined in Section 53000, of the local agency. See California Government Code 53540
  • License: as used in this chapter also includes a "permit". See California Government Code 53437
  • Local agency: means a county, city, school district, district, municipal corporation, political subdivision, public corporation, or other public agency of the state. See California Government Code 53200
  • local agency: means county, city, city and county, public district or any public or municipal corporation, public agency or public authority. See California Government Code 53510
  • local agency: means county, city, city and county, public district or any public or municipal corporation, public agency or public authority. See California Government Code 53520
  • Local agency: means county, city, city and county, public district, public entity or authority, or other public or municipal corporation, including redevelopment agencies, housing authorities, and industrial development authorities. See California Government Code 53530

  • Mental disability: includes , but is not limited to, all of the following:

  • Military and veteran status: means a member or veteran of the United States Armed Forces, United States Armed Forces Reserve, the United States National Guard, and the California National Guard. See California Government Code 31644
  • Motor oil: means an oil that reduces friction and wear between the moving parts within an internal combustion engine and also serves as a coolant. See California Government Code 53202.25
  • Motor vehicle: means a vehicle required to be registered under the Vehicle Code that is bought for use primarily for personal or family purposes, and does not mean any vehicle that is bought for use primarily for business or commercial purposes or a mobilehome, as defined in Section 18008 of the Health and Safety Code that is sold on or after July 1, 1981.   • Motor vehicle fuel: means "engine fuel" when that term is used in this chapter. See California Government Code 53202.25
  • Notice: includes all papers and orders required to be served in any proceedings before any court, board, or officer, or when required by law to be served independently of such proceeding. See California Government Code 26660
  • On the bases enumerated in this part: means or refers to discrimination on the basis of one or more of the following: race, religious creed, color, national origin, ancestry, physical disability, mental disability, medical condition, genetic information, marital status, sex, age, sexual orientation, or military and veteran status. See California Government Code 31644
  • Parent and child relationship: as used in this part means the legal relationship existing between a child and the child's natural or adoptive parents incident to which the law confers or imposes rights, privileges, duties, and obligations. See California Health and Safety Code 104162.1
  • Person: includes one or more individuals, partnerships, associations, corporations, limited liability companies, legal representatives, trustees, trustees in bankruptcy, and receivers or other fiduciaries. See California Government Code 31643
  • Physical disability: includes , but is not limited to, all of the following:

  • Political subdivision: means any city, county, district, or other local governmental agency. See California Government Code 14055
  • Purchase order: means a sales order, car reservation, statement of transaction or any other such instrument used in the conditional sale of a motor vehicle pending execution of a conditional sale contract. See California Education Code 8361
  • Religious corporation: means any corporation formed under, or otherwise subject to, Part 4 (commencing with Section 9110) or Part 6 (commencing with Section 10000) of Division 2 of Title 1 of the Corporations Code, and also includes a corporation that is formed primarily or exclusively for religious purposes under the laws of any other state to administer the affairs of an organized religious group and that is not organized for private profit.   • Religious duties: means duties of employment connected with carrying on the religious activities of a religious corporation or association. See California Government Code 31646
  • Residue: means the same as defined in Section 171. See California Education Code 8423
  • Resource and referral programs: means programs that provide information to parents, including referrals and coordination of community resources for parents and public or private providers of care. See California Education Code 8208
  • Safe parking place: means any loading or unloading facility or motor carrier terminal where the driver may safely and lawfully park and leave the vehicle unattended when authorized by the owner or person in charge of the facility or terminal. See California Education Code 8423
  • Safe stopping place: means any place designated by the department pursuant to this division where a driver may stop for food, fuel, or any other necessary reason, provided the vehicle is attended at all times. See California Education Code 8423
  • Seller: means a person engaged in the business of selling or leasing motor vehicles under conditional sale contracts. See California Education Code 8361
  • Sex: includes , but is not limited to, the following:

  • Sexual orientation: means heterosexuality, homosexuality, and bisexuality. See California Government Code 31644
  • Source of income: means lawful, verifiable income paid directly to a tenant or paid to a representative of a tenant. See California Government Code 31646.1
  • Startup costs: means those expenses an agency incurs in the process of opening a new or additional facility before the full enrollment of children. See California Education Code 8208
  • state agency: includes every state office, officer, department, division, bureau, board, and commission. See California Government Code 11000
  • veterans service organization: means any association or organization which is composed solely of persons who served honorably in time of war or in time of peace in a campaign or expedition for service in which a medal has been authorized by the government of the United States, as members of the Armed Forces of the United States, or who as citizens of the United States served honorably in time of war as members of the armed forces of any nation whose government was allied with the United States during that war, and which is organized for patriotic, fraternal, and benevolent objects.
