Terms Used In California Codes > Public Utilities Code > Division 4 > Chapter 1

  • Acquiring district: means a school district that has all or portions of one or more other school districts transferred into, or lapsed into, its boundaries pursuant to subdivision (b) of Section 35511 or Section 35780. See California Education Code 35514
  • Agency: means the Labor and Workforce Development Agency. See California Labor Code 18.5
  • Appeals board: means the Occupational Safety and Health Appeals Board, within the department. See California Labor Code 6302
  • city: means any city, town, or municipal corporation incorporated under the laws of this State. See California Water Code 8002
  • city: includes city and county, and "county" does not include city and county. See California Water Code 8152
  • City: includes city and county and "incorporated town" but does not include "unincorporated town" or "village. See California Public Utilities Code 19
  • city council: includes the legislative body of any city by whatever name it may be designated. See California Water Code 8003
  • Commission: means the Public Utilities Commission created by Section 1 of Article XII of the California Constitution, and "commissioner" means a member of the commission. See California Public Utilities Code 20
  • Committee print: A publication used by committees for various purposes. For example, the rules of each standing committee may be published as a committee print, and drafts of bills or committee reports may be produced as committee prints.
  • County: includes city and county. See California Water Code 14
  • County: includes city and county. See California Public Utilities Code 18
  • date of transfer: means (a) . See California Water Code 8151
  • Department: means the Department of Industrial Relations. See California Labor Code 6302
  • Director: means the Director of Industrial Relations. See California Labor Code 6302
  • Districts: means school districts of every kind or class. See California Education Code 35514
  • Division: means the Division of Occupational Safety and Health. See California Labor Code 6302
  • drainage improvement: means any storm drain improvement, drainage improvement, or drainage system, authorized to be transferred pursuant to this chapter. See California Water Code 8150
  • Finance charge: The total cost of credit a customer must pay on a consumer loan, including interest. The Truth in Lending Act requires disclosure of the finance charge. Source: OCC
  • Foreclosure: A legal process in which property that is collateral or security for a loan may be sold to help repay the loan when the loan is in default. Source: OCC
  • Former district: means a school district that has been wholly included in another school district, or has had all of its territory made part of two or more other school districts, through any action taken pursuant to Section 35511 or through a lapsation pursuant to Section 35780. See California Education Code 35514
  • Insurer: includes the State Compensation Insurance Fund and any private company, corporation, mutual association, and reciprocal or interinsurance exchange, authorized under the laws of this state to insure employers against liability for compensation under this part and under Division 4 (commencing with Section 3201), and any employer to whom a certificate of consent to self-insure has been issued.   • Interest rate: The amount paid by a borrower to a lender in exchange for the use of the lender's money for a certain period of time. Interest is paid on loans or on debt instruments, such as notes or bonds, either at regular intervals or as part of a lump sum payment when the issue matures. Source: OCC
  • National Bank: A bank that is subject to the supervision of the Comptroller of the Currency. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency is a bureau of the U.S. Treasury Department. A national bank can be recognized because it must have "national" or "national association" in its name. Source: OCC
  • New district: means a school district that is formed from all or portions of one or more other school districts by an action to reorganize taken pursuant to subdivision (a) of Section 35511. See California Education Code 35514
  • Non-navigable streams: as used in this article , means streams and washes in a county which are not declared by law to be navigable and which are not in fact navigable for commercial purposes. See California Water Code 8125
  • Original district: means a school district as it existed before an action to reorganize pursuant to Section 35511 or before an action to lapse a school district pursuant to Section 35780. See California Education Code 35514
  • Person: means any person, firm, association, organization, partnership, business trust, corporation, limited liability company, or company. See California Water Code 19
  • Person: means any person, association, organization, partnership, business trust, limited liability company, or corporation. See California Labor Code 18
  • property: includes property real and personal. See California Civil Code 14
  • Reorganized district: means a school district that is a "new district" an "acquiring district" or a "divided district. See California Education Code 35514
  • Right of rescission: Right to cancel, within three business days, a contract that uses the home of a person as collateral, except in the case of a first mortgage loan. There is no fee to the borrower, who receives a full refund of all fees paid. The right of rescission is guaranteed by the Truth in Lending Act (TILA). Source: OCC
  • Secretary: means the Secretary of Labor and Workforce Development. See California Labor Code 19.5
  • Serious injury or illness: means any injury or illness occurring in a place of employment or in connection with any employment that requires inpatient hospitalization, for other than medical observation or diagnostic testing, or in which an employee suffers an amputation, the loss of an eye, or any serious degree of permanent disfigurement, but does not include any injury or illness or death caused by an accident on a public street or highway, unless the accident occurred in a construction zone.   • spouse: includes a registered domestic partner, as required by Section 297. See California Civil Code 14
  • Standards board: means the Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board, within the department. See California Labor Code 6302
  • State: means the State of California, unless applied to the different parts of the United States. See California Water Code 18
  • State: means the State of California, unless applied to the different parts of the United States. See California Public Utilities Code 17
  • Subdivision: means a subdivision of the section in which that term occurs unless some other section is expressly mentioned. See California Public Utilities Code 10
  • United States: means the United States of America, and in relation to any particular matter includes the officers, agents, employees, agencies, or instrumentalities authorized to act in relation thereto. See California Water Code 20
  • Violation: includes a failure to comply with any requirement of the code. See California Labor Code 22
  • works: includes canals, ditches, levees, dikes, embankments, dams, machinery, and other appropriate or ancillary means of accomplishing the purposes mentioned in this chapter. See California Water Code 8001
