(a) Nothing in sections 38a-481 to 38a-488, inclusive, shall apply to or affect (1) any policy of liability or workers’ compensation insurance; (2) any group health insurance policy as defined by the commissioner; (3) life insurance, endowment or annuity contracts or contracts supplemental thereto which contain only such provisions relating to health insurance as (A) provide additional benefits in case of death by accidental means and (B) operate to safeguard such contracts against lapse, or to give a special surrender value or special benefit or an annuity in the event that the insured or annuitant becomes totally and permanently disabled as defined by the contract or supplemental contract; (4) fraternal benefit societies, except as provided by § 38a-640; (5) insurance, issued in conjunction with an automobile liability policy subject to sections 38a-19 and 38a-363 to 38a-388, inclusive, providing reimbursement for medical, surgical, ambulance, hospital, nursing or funeral expenses, or indemnity for other loss, resulting from injuries sustained by any person, including the named insured, arising out of the ownership, maintenance or use of an automobile, or issued in conjunction with other kinds of liability insurance providing reimbursement for medical, surgical, ambulance, hospital, nursing or funeral expenses resulting from injuries sustained by any person, including the named insured, in connection with the premises or operations insured.

Terms Used In Connecticut General Statutes 38a-480

  • Annuity: A periodic (usually annual) payment of a fixed sum of money for either the life of the recipient or for a fixed number of years. A series of payments under a contract from an insurance company, a trust company, or an individual. Annuity payments are made at regular intervals over a period of more than one full year.
  • Commissioner: means the Insurance Commissioner. See Connecticut General Statutes 38a-1
  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • Insurance: means any agreement to pay a sum of money, provide services or any other thing of value on the happening of a particular event or contingency or to provide indemnity for loss in respect to a specified subject by specified perils in return for a consideration. See Connecticut General Statutes 38a-1
  • Insured: means a person to whom or for whose benefit an insurer makes a promise in an insurance policy. See Connecticut General Statutes 38a-1
  • Life insurance: means insurance on human lives and insurances pertaining to or connected with human life. See Connecticut General Statutes 38a-1
  • Person: means an individual, a corporation, a partnership, a limited liability company, an association, a joint stock company, a business trust, an unincorporated organization or other legal entity. See Connecticut General Statutes 38a-1
  • Policy: means any document, including attached endorsements and riders, purporting to be an enforceable contract, which memorializes in writing some or all of the terms of an insurance contract. See Connecticut General Statutes 38a-1

(b) Except as otherwise provided in this title, the provisions of sections 38a-481 to 38a-488, inclusive, 38a-492, 38a-502 and 38a-505 shall not apply to any subscriber contract issued by a health care center.
