Terms Used In Florida Statutes 1005.09
- Dependent: A person dependent for support upon another.
- Independent postsecondary educational institution: means any postsecondary educational institution that operates in this state or makes application to operate in this state, and is not provided, operated, and supported by the State of Florida, its political subdivisions, or the Federal Government. See Florida Statutes 1005.02
- veteran: means a person who served in the active military, naval, or air service and who was discharged or released under honorable conditions only or who later received an upgraded discharge under honorable conditions, notwithstanding any action by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs on individuals discharged or released with other than honorable discharges. See Florida Statutes 1.01
Each independent postsecondary educational institution defined in s. 1005.02(11) that offers priority course registration for a segment of the student population, or upon implementation of priority course registration for a segment of the student population, is encouraged to provide priority course registration for each veteran of the United States Armed Forces, or his or her spouse or dependent children, who is receiving GI Bill educational benefits, in accordance with s. 1004.075.
