“Employment” includes an individual’s entire service, performed within or both within and without this State if:

- American vessel: means any vessel documented or numbered under the laws of the United States; and includes any vessel which is neither documented or numbered under the laws of the United States nor documented under the laws of any foreign country, if its crew is employed solely by one or more citizens or residents of the United States or corporations organized under the laws of the United States or of any state. - Employment: includes , but is not limited to, any service performed prior to January 1, 1978, which was employment as defined in this section prior to such date and, subject to the other provisions of this section, service performed after December 31, 1977, by an employee as defined in section 3306(i) and (o) of the federal Unemployment Tax Act, including service in interstate commerce. - State: includes the states of the United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Virgin Islands. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 383-1
- United States: includes the states, the District of Columbia, and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico; and, after December 31 of the year in which the Secretary of Labor approves for the first time an unemployment insurance law of the Virgin Islands submitted to the Secretary of Labor for approval, the term "United States" shall also include the Virgin Islands. Notwithstanding any other provisions of this section, the term employment also includes all service performed after June 30, 1946, by an officer or member of the crew of an American vessel on or in connection with such vessel, provided that the operating office from which the operations of the vessel operating on navigable waters within or within and without the United States is ordinarily and regularly supervised, managed, directed, and controlled, is within this State.
