Terms Used In Illinois Compiled Statutes 805 ILCS 10/3.2

  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
  • United States: may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
     “Regulating authority” means the Supreme Court of Illinois (in the case of attorneys at law), the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, or other State board, department, or agency having jurisdiction to grant a license to render the category of professional service for which a professional corporation has been organized, the United States Patent Office, or the Internal Revenue Service of the United States Treasury Department.
