The term “employment” shall not include service performed after 1971:
        (A) In the employ of a hospital, if such service is
    
performed by a patient of the hospital.
        (B) As a student nurse in the employ of a hospital or
    
a nurses’ training school by an individual who is enrolled and is regularly attending classes in a nurses’ training school approved pursuant to the Nurse Practice Act.
        (C) As an intern in the employ of a hospital by an
    
individual who has completed a 4 years’ course in a medical school chartered or approved pursuant to State law.

  • individual: shall include every infant member of the species homo sapiens who is born alive at any stage of development. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.36
  • State: when applied to different parts of the United States, may be construed to include the District of Columbia and the several territories, and the words "United States" may be construed to include the said district and territories. See Illinois Compiled Statutes 5 ILCS 70/1.14
