Terms Used In Iowa Code > Chapter 505B - Insurance Notices and Documents -- Electronic Delivery and Posting

• Annuity: A periodic (usually annual) payment of a fixed sum of money for either the life of the recipient or for a fixed number of years. A series of payments under a contract from an insurance company, a trust company, or an individual. Annuity payments are made at regular intervals over a period of more than one full year.
• Commissioner: means the commissioner of insurance. See Iowa Code 510.1B
• Contract: means the same as defined in section 554D. See Iowa Code 554E.1
• Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
• delivery by electronic means: means any of the following:
   (1) Delivery to an electronic mail address at which a party has consented to receive notices or documents. See Iowa Code 505B.1
• Electronic: means the same as defined in section 554D. See Iowa Code 554E.1
• employee: means an individual participating in a group health plan who is entitled to notices and documents and who is an employee of the sponsor or policyholder of the group health plan. See Iowa Code 505B.1
• Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
• following: when used by way of reference to a chapter or other part of a statute mean the next preceding or next following chapter or other part. See Iowa Code 4.1
• Insurer: means a person duly licensed in this state as an insurance company pursuant to this subtitle. See Iowa Code 510.1B
• Internet: means the federated international system that is composed of allied electronic communication networks linked by telecommunication channels, that uses standardized protocols, and that facilitates electronic communication services, including but not limited to use of the world wide web; the transmission of electronic mail or messages; the transfer of files and data or other electronic information; and the transmission of voice, image, and video. See Iowa Code 4.1
• Internet site: means a specific location on the internet that is determined by internet protocol numbers, by a domain name, or by both, including but not limited to domain names that use the designations ". See Iowa Code 4.1
• Party: means a recipient of a notice or document required as part of an insurance transaction, including but not limited to an applicant, an insured, a policyholder, or an annuity contract holder. See Iowa Code 505B.1
• person: means an individual participating in a group health plan who is entitled to notices and documents. See Iowa Code 505B.1
• Record: means the same as defined in section 554D. See Iowa Code 554E.1
• Rule: includes "regulation". See Iowa Code 4.1
• Sale: means any sale, offer for sale, or attempt to sell or lease any land, to the public in this state, for cash or on credit. See Iowa Code 543C.1
• Smart device: means an electronic device that combines a cell phone with a hand-held computer and that offers internet access, and text or electronic mail capabilities. See Iowa Code 505B.1
• Transaction: means a sale, trade, exchange, transfer, payment, or conversion of a digital asset or any other property or any other action or set of actions occurring between two or more persons relating to the conduct of business, commercial, or governmental affairs. See Iowa Code 554E.1
