Terms Used In Iowa Code > Chapter 546B - Veterans Benefits Assistance

• Advertisement: means the attempt by dissemination, solicitation, or circulation to directly or indirectly induce any person to enter into any obligation or acquire any title or interest in land offered for sale or lease to the public in this state. See Iowa Code 543C.1
• Assets: (1) The property comprising the estate of a deceased person, or (2) the property in a trust account.
• Compensation: means money, property, or anything else of value, which includes but is not limited to exclusive arrangements or agreements for the provision of services or the purchase of products. See Iowa Code 546B.1
• Entitlement: A Federal program or provision of law that requires payments to any person or unit of government that meets the eligibility criteria established by law. Entitlements constitute a binding obligation on the part of the Federal Government, and eligible recipients have legal recourse if the obligation is not fulfilled. Social Security and veterans' compensation and pensions are examples of entitlement programs.
• following: when used by way of reference to a chapter or other part of a statute mean the next preceding or next following chapter or other part. See Iowa Code 4.1
• Money: means the same as defined in section 554. See Iowa Code 554E.1
• Person: includes , where applicable, natural persons, corporations, trusts, unincorporated associations, and partnerships. See Iowa Code 546B.1
• property: includes personal and real property. See Iowa Code 4.1
• Sale: means any sale, offer for sale, or attempt to sell or lease any land, to the public in this state, for cash or on credit. See Iowa Code 543C.1
• state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories, and the words "United States" may include the said district and territories. See Iowa Code 4.1
• Trade or commerce: includes the marketing or sale of assets, goods, or services, or any commerce directly or indirectly affecting the people of this state. See Iowa Code 546B.1
• United States: includes all the states. See Iowa Code 4.1
