Terms Used In Kansas Statutes 23-37,307

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories. See Kansas Statutes 77-201

(UCCJEA 307). If a proceeding for enforcement under Kan. Stat. Ann. § 23-37,301 through 23-37,317, and amendments thereto, is commenced in a court of this state and the court determines that a proceeding to modify the determination is pending in a court of another state having jurisdiction to modify the determination under Kan. Stat. Ann. § 23-37,201 through 23-37,210, and amendments thereto, the enforcing court shall immediately communicate with the modifying court. The proceeding for enforcement continues unless the enforcing court, after consultation with the modifying court, stays or dismisses the proceeding.
